History

Established in 1926, the Louisiana Hospital Association (LHA) is a not-for-profit association representing all types of hospitals and healthcare systems throughout the state.  The LHA carries out its mission by providing services and resources to members through advocacy, education, research, representation and communication.

Operational and financial products and services are offered to the LHA membership through ShareCor, a joint venture with the Metropolitan Hospital Council of New Orleans.

The Meaning Behind the Logo

The outer circle in the emblem of the Louisiana Hospital Association is symbolic of The Universe, The Life-giving Sun, or The Creator of All Life.

In the upper inner circle appears the Pelican, an integral part of the official Seal of the State of Louisiana.

The lower left inner circle contains Jupiter's sign of the Eye of Horus from which our present day Rx is derived and is interpreted "Take Thou...," a kind of invocation.

The cross in the lower right inner circle is stylization of the Maltese Cross of the Christian Crusades and the Geneva, or Greek Cross, international emblem for the relief of the sick and wounded.

The three circles intertwined symbolize the mutual dependence of Divinely Inspired Human Relations, Medicine and State.

The lettering style is of Greek and Roman character, symbolizing the contributions of this culture to the development of mass patient treatment facilities, commonly known as Aesculapian Temples.
